SDCC MCU News, Cereal Boxer Edition!

SDCC MCU News, Cereal Boxer Edition!

Co-Authored by John B. Pyka and Crayle Vanest

San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) is one of the biggest events of the year for the geeks of America, and even geeks around the world.

In 2022, Johnny was so excited to share the announcements from SDCC that he went live on a Sunday morning (an unusual occurrence on Back of the Ceral Box) to share with the rest of us.

We’re all especially excited about the news we got about the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

See the video below for the full scoop, but read the highlights here.

X-Men 97

First of all, they showed some more details on the X-Men 97 series, the animated series that picks up where the Saturday morning X-Men cartoons left off.

You'll remember at the end of that series (if you were a fan) that Professor X left for space as he did in the comics.

In the late 80s, he went off with Leandra and left his oldest friend in charge…

You would think Cyclops would take over. But no. Magneto is put in charge of Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters. And he is going to be the leader of the X-Men, this comes right out of the comics canon.

I Am Groot

The SDCC crew also showed a trailer for I Am Groot, which is going to be a CGI animated series.

And Bradley Cooper is returning as Rocket Raccoon. That comes out later this year. So be on the lookout for that.

Spider Man: Freshman Year

We also got more news about Spider Man: Freshman Year.

They verified that Daredevil is going to be a part of that story, and that it is going to be voiced by Charlie. Charlie Cox.

Tom Holland, however, is not going to voice Peter Parker, because he’s younger. It's his freshman year.

Does that mean freshman year of high school or his first year as the superhero Spider Man after, Captain America Civil War? We don't know because we saw designs of some alternate suits that he would only be able to have access to if he had the Stark Tech. But

Is it going to be in in canon MCU? We don't know. But Johnny hopes so.

As of right now though, we haven’t seen any trailers. It doesn’t come out until 2023.

What If? Season 2 - Marvel Zombies

One completely unexpected announcement (according to the Cereal Box team, at least) was that Marvel Zombies is coming to What If? Season 2.

It’s going to be a six episode series, and it will feature Shang Chi the death dealer

Hawkeye, Kate Bishop, and Yelena Belova will be fighting against the Marvel Zombies.

This story will also be in canon but in an alternate universe, or rather another part of the multiverse.

Even if you’re not a zombies fan, superheroes in a zombie apocalypse might bring you on board. We’re definitely going to watch it, because we just love everything Marvel.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

They also released the trailer for the next Black Panter movie, Wakanda Forever.

They do acknowledge the death of T’Chall (rest in peace, Michael Chadwick). It seems to open with his funeral. And everyone's dealing with the grief of his loss.

Then, if you judge it by the last frame of the trailer, it looks like Shuri becomes the next Black Panther.

We'll have to wait and see.

Above is the teaser trailer, but a longer one is available on YouTube directly.

MCU Phase 5: The Multiverse Saga

Kevin Feige dropped nukes on the stage, outlining the direction of MCU Phase 5, which is now being called The Multiverse Saga. Now we knew some of the things were coming. We knew that Secret Invasion is on its way.

Now, some things we knew were coming are:

  • Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. III is in production.
  • Blade is on the way (release date Nov. 3, 2023).
  • An Echo series is on the way.
  • An Iron Heart series is on the way.
  • Agatha Harkness is getting her own series (though it now has an official title, Agatha: Coven of Chaos)

Phase 5 actually begins with Black Panter, Wakanda Forever, the transition between Phases 4 and 5.

Then the first part of Phase Five is Loki season two, which is already filming, and comes out next summer, 2023.

But here's some of the biggest news. We got our first glimpse into Captain America: New World Order.

The film centers around Sam Wilson’s Captain America, which we love here at the Cereal Box Network.

Captain America: New World Order comes out May 3 of 2024.

Daredevil: Born Again will be a film, as opposed to a series, best we can tell, but we don’t have a release date yet.

The MCU also has anti-heroes now, with the introduction of Moon Knight (more details in Johnny’s video).

Avengers – HUGE NEWS!

Then, they hit us between the eyes with the biggest news. In 2025, to finish the multiverse saga, we’ll Avengers, Qing Dynasty. That releases May, 2 2025.

And then November 7, Avengers Secret Wars.

That’s right, we’re getting TWO Avengers movies in 2025.

And this is the multiverses saga. So, this is what's coming.

And if we’re understanding things right, there will be a major reset after Avengers: Secret Wars.

We’ll have to wait and see.

Catch Johnny's expanded thoughts, theories, and more news tidbits in the recording below. :)
